ACADEMIC CAREER

2017-present

Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of English, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Consultancy role to the Department of English City University of Hong Kong. This position involves teaching and supervision of post-graduate students.

2013- 2017

Associate Professor, Department of English, City University of Hong Kong. This position is a full-time academic post with the usual requirements of regular academic output, teaching and supervision. I also coordinate the College of Business English language provision with an enrolment of 1,000 students.

2011 –2013

Head of the English Language Centre (ELC) and Associate Head & Associate Professor in the Department of English, City University of Hong Kong. This was a concurrent administrative and academic position that required leadership and change management in the ELC and reported directly to the Associate. Provost of the university. I was also part of the management team of the department and taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervised postgraduate theses and published.

2010- 2011

Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of English and (Acting) Head (February 1st –on-going) of the English Language Centre (ELC) at the City University of Hong Kong.

2005 – 2010

Head of the Centre for Language in Education (CLE), Hong Kong University of Education. This was also a change management position where new curriculum direction was implemented within the English, Putonghua and Cantonese sections. A new self- access centre was also set up as part of this change.

2003-2005

Co-founder and chief consultant- Future Perfect Business English, Manila.  I moved to the Philippines for 2 years where I worked as a consultant within the business processing outsourcing (BPO) industry. I advised multinational companies with offshored operations on language policy, assessment, curriculum development, training and coaching for business impact.

2001 – 2003

Head of The Centre for Professional and Business English at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Established within the university, this self- funded centre became highly profitable due to success in winning a mixture of government and private company contracts.

Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of Special and Self-financed Programmes –Department of English at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Director of Education - The Australian Centre for Languages (ACL), Sydney, Australia. Responsibilities included the recruitment of overseas students, curriculum direction and the oversight of the Nepean Language Centre.
